near bird's eye, it had to, indiana. but there is an even larger tornado that i'm very worried about it. it's to the northwest of louisville by maybe 30 miles but it is on the ground doing damage. new peak in indiana is in the way of this tornado. if you know anybody in that area, they just need to take cover. and these now are so big that you don't have to wait. if you see a dark cloud literally, you know a storm is coming your way, don't wait for the weather service to put out a warning. just take your tornado precautions, anyway, and just keep yourself safe. what's 25 minutes in a closet if it will keep yourself safe. >> incredible advice. we have that piece of sound when we were talking to jeff. let's roll that. >> we have a tornado that's tracked anywhere from 50 miles west of evansville up toward wadesville. there is damage on the ground. we saw it for about five minutes coming down highway 64. the tornadic storm is producing tornadoes. it's on highway 64 just to the north of livershole and heading toward lynnville, so that area to the north and northeast of evansvil evansville. t

day of dangerous weather in ohio and the tennessee valley. much of indiana, missouri, kentucky are in danger. there has been a tornado emergency reported in madison county. we have live pictures of a menacing sky. the national and louisville. let's bring in chad myers at the cnn atlanta center. what is the latest? >> it goes all the way from illinois all the way down to georgia, alabama, as far west as louisiana and far north as virginia. on the backside, it's snowing up in squad cities. that's not atypical. you need cold air to clash. a couple areas still on the ground, to the north of chattanooga by bradley and north of cleveland in tennessee. and then another couple storms here popping up, not that far from cape girardo. that is harrisburg, illinois. right in the middle of a new tornado watch. that town that got hit so hard a couple of days ago. all of this area is under severe weather today. there will be a severe thunderstorm watch, tornado watch, and many warnings going through the night and probably into 10:00, 11:00 tonight. >> that means, keep it tuned here to cnn. cha

troops have been deployed to the hardest-hit states of kentucky, indiana and missouri. jacqui jeras is here with me in the weather center keeping a close watch on all of this. let's talk about what concentrated areas are kind of in the bull's-eye, so to speak right now. florida among them. >> north florida and southern parts of georgia. it's really this squall line we are looking at right here that has the most potential for producing tornadic storms. right now there are no tornado warnings that are in effect. some of those thunderstorms could produce wind damage in excess of 60 miles per hour. sometimes those real down burst winds can cause as much damage as a tornado. you still need to stay indoors. another place that we are watching that's included in this tornado threat is jacksonville, florida. there you can see a live picture from jacksonville at this time. it's extremely windy. that's why you see all that crazy shaking going on on the camera there. 86 degrees. it's a very warm, very moist, ripe atmosphere. as that cold front starts to come on down and move into the region, th

boxes here, parts of tennessee and kentucky, and maybe indiana, and ohio, also, that is the bull's i didn't. it will happen probably in the next three or four hours. there will be numerous tornadoes on the ground. we are seeing that across areas of the ohio river valley, harrisburg to the west of that they will clear out here. and the storm they had there today not as bad as in the east. you can see the cells lining up, exploding cross the same areas. to the north of louisville, cutting right around evansville, pretty big founds and in louisville a lot of rotation so that is scary. a big area under threat here. you can see all of this red, the moderate risk and this morning, a high risk. they do this less than ten times a year with that kind of a threat but it includes cincinnati, through louisville, lexington, and around the nashville area under a high risk for tornadoes. very rough situation on our hands and it will go in to the overnight hours toward the eastern side of this and. and headed in to the carolinas and the bull's eye right across the ohio river valley. >>shepard: watch

of indiana. this henriville, indiana located 20 miles north of louisville, kentucky. this is henriville junior/senior high school struck by a tornado. that school demolished completely. there were people trapped in the high school for a time period. now i believe only one person is still not being found in that high school. the school was actually in dismissal at that time. you can see now the chopper is flying over some open land right now, not exactly over the henriville area but maryville just up the road the sheriff's office says that town is completely off the map, a town of 1900 people. don't know of any deaths in maryville but every building gone. this is why, look at these very strong storms, all across the region from portions of ohio around cincinnati all the way down toward the gulf coast states. we're talking about mississippi, alabama, and in through portions of georgia. take a look at the current colors. when i say the current colors i mean the yellows, the tornado watches. it includes parts if not half of west virginia right now. southern portions of ohio all the way down

tell it hit the school with all of the turbulence. >> life in henryville, indiana may never be the same. you can say that about so many communities in the path of these storms. at least 37 people have died. 14 of them were in indiana. and we learned that the tornado that hit henryville was an ef-4. that means sustained winds up to 200 miles per hour, we're talking nascar speeds here. it cut a path 52 miles long and it was as wide as 1 1/2 football fields. the damage, of course, is catastrophic. about 180 miles away, another town is obliterated. west liberty, kentucky. an ef-3 blew through the heart of this small town. winds were as high as 165 miles per hour. it seems no building was spared. the roofs are peeled off some. others were blasted to the ground. kentucky got some of the worst of it. 18 people died there. let's meet some of the brave people of henryville now. there a twister took away a family's home, but took a father, a dad. >> reporter: here in clark county, indiana, in henryville, only one person didn't survive that killer tornado. he's 64-year-old wayne hunter. this is th

. and indiana. the weather has turned. better get some of that winter wardrobe ready because monday it looks like it is going to be cold. it's going to be a 40 degree day on monday and a 70 degree day on tuesday. when you look at the turbulent skies this one comes in from st. john indiana. this is a turbulent looking sky over york a bill. this is one of the most fascinating time lapses of our lake front. these little banks of clouds that come in from the east these are outflows. that is a pocket of cool air coming in after a thunderstorm. here is the storm with his brakes and sunshine and downstate. tonight visibility is a quarter of a mile in kenosha and waukegan. a whole atmosphere is spin is showing up. this has produced the biggest drain here and almost three months. we needed it. we had almost half the amount of normal rain in march going into this thing. the temperatures made it into the seventies today. only in the 50's at the lake front. we will see that again this weekend. it is 55 and highland indiana. it is 55 at soldiers feel here in chicago. we are about 2 mi. west of the shore

to the air force academy and is a graduate of indiana university's law school. he is a huge hoosier fan and i can only imagine how proud he was of the indiana elite eight basketball performance against kentucky last friday. the home thing that -- wrong was that kentucky beat indiana by a vote of -- by one point, 73-72. so that kind of ended indiana in the march madness. another part of the behind-the-scenes function of the house that john's strategic wisdom and advice was critical to the continuity of the house function was in the days and weeks following the tragic events of september 11, 2001. and he performed there admirably. so john has led the parliamentarian's office in a collegial and a very profession al-manar, to the benefit of the office, the members and the house and we are fortunate for his service and wish him well in retirement and we will miss him. i yield back. mr. dingell: mr. speaker, at this time i yield two minutes to my distinguished friend from virginia, through my good friend from ohio, to the gentleman from virginia. >> thank you for yielding time. i'm not from virgini

and devastation along some of those areas and pile up about one to three inches of snow for parts of indiana, eastern kentucky. that is not good news. another part of the problem is the chilly temperatures. that temperatures are hovering around freezing southern indiana into eastern kentucky and some of the higher elevations of west virginia. we already have some of those rain snow hours in parts of ohio and virginia and eastern kentucky. but because the atmosphere is relatively dry, cold front aside from the tornadoes that dry air will be evaporating some of that moisture before it hits the ground. you get snow showers but not seeing a lot of activity on the ground. as we get our next impulse further off to the west, snow coming in minnesota as an iowa. this will dip into parts of indiana and kentucky and into tomorrow morning. as you see 3:00 a.m. monday, we'll have steady snowfall in parts of kentucky. that said, further off to the south, for the state of tennessee also alabama we're not expecting widespread precipitation or any accumulating snowfall so quiet conditions for them. otherwis
